I hope you guys are having a good summer so far. One thing is for sure, it is HOT! If you are outside much, make sure you hydrate a lot. It makes a big difference.
I’ve been on the water a lot lately. The breeze has helped keep it somewhat cool and we’ve had to dodge a few storms here or there so keep an eye out for those thunderstorms that like to pop up.
Recently, Producto Lures has picked me up as Pro Staff. Super thankful to have companies out there like this that support guides all over. These guys do a lot of freshwater baits but also have a saltwater section called 12 Fathom. Check them out online at www.productolure.com.
Scallop season is in full swing but my customers are still wanting to fish which is totally fine with me. Redfish, drum and trout are still biting. The hot weather makes us work a little harder at times but that is fishing!
Shrimp should start running soon in the St John’s River. We call this the shrimp run. I like to throw a cast net to catch some dinner and put some back in the freezer (for dinner some other time). You can keep up to 5 gallons per boat. If you have never done this before you should give it a try. It’s a blast and sometimes you catch catfish, flounder, etc. I have extra nets and can teach you to throw at the beginning of the trip. Sometimes we even mix some fishing in after we catch our shrimp.
Stay safe and keep those lines tight!
